FAQs
Why are you called Radical Self Love Bodywork?
Radical means to cut directly to the root of something and I believe self love cuts directly to the root of our suffering. Humans have been giving and receiving loving touch to heal our bodies and minds even before we evolved into humans. It is something shared across all mammals. All people and all body types are welcome and celebrated at Radical Self Love Bodywork. Homophobia, racism, sexism, etc will not be tolerated. I’m an active part of the LGBTQIA+ community and my practice is a space for affirmation and healing. As the Buddha said "Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule."
Where is the massage located?
I provide massage services at two locations - in my private home studio in East Liberty and at the Jeffrey Smith Salon in Highland Park. You can choose which location you prefer when booking. Details and directions can be found in the Locations tab.
How early should I arrive?
Please aim to arrive no more than 5-10 minutes before your appointment time. For new clients, I will do a brief intake with you to determine your goals with massage. For returning customers, we will discuss any changes in your health or requested adjustments you’d like for this experience.
Cancellation policy
A credit card is required to hold your booking. No-shows and cancellations within 24-hours will be charged the full session price. Cancellations and rescheduling can be done up until 24 hours before your appointment start time by clicking the “Change/Cancel Appointment” button in the confirmation email you received after booking your appointment.
Do you accept insurance?
I do not accept insurance for my services. I do, however, accept payments from HSA or FSA accounts.
How often should I get a massage?
It depends on your goals:
For working on a specific issue: A series of 3-4 weekly sessions is ideal. We'll evaluate progress after each session to ensure we’re on track. If progress is steady but incomplete, we can continue. If not, we’ll discuss alternative options—I won’t sell you something that isn’t working.
For ongoing support and body maintenance: If you have a physically demanding lifestyle, persistent stress, or chronic issues that are currently not impacting your daily life, a massage every month is beneficial.
For relaxation or a treat: Get a massage as often (or as infrequently) as you like!
There are many subscriptions options available for you to choose from, tailored to your needs. As a small business owner I rely on stability of my clients, so I offer a discount on the standard massage pricing when you buy a package or monthly subscription.
What length of massage should I schedule?
Depth takes time and this work follows the pace set by your nervous system. Relaxing into the massage and focusing on your breath enhances the experience, allowing your body to fully release and double the effectiveness of the bodywork.
A 60-minute session focuses on 1–2 areas of pain or dysfunction. While we can cover most of the body, some areas (like hands, feet, head, or anterior legs) may need to be skipped.
For a more thorough experience, 90 minutes allows for a basic full-body massage or in-depth work on 1–4 areas.
Do I have to fully undress for my session?
My first priority is your comfort. I am trained in professional draping techniques so that only the parts of you that I am actively working on will be undraped while the rest of you stays warm and cozy under the sheets. Private areas shall never be exposed during treatment. I have over 700 hours of hands on massage training and over 400 hours of hands on professional experience working all body types.
Massage works through your nervous system so anything we can do to make you feel comfortable and safe will only enhance the effectiveness of the manual techniques I apply to your body. If you are comfortable—and especially if your problem area is low back, quads, or glutes—being fully undressed allows for more skin-to-skin contact and effective treatment of the problem areas.
Do I speak or stay silent during my session?
The most effective massage sessions are ones where you are fully present in your body. While a small amount of verbal communication can be used to ease our bodies into safety and comfort, true presence in our bodies requires silence. During your session, I will verbally check in about pressure and comfort, especially if we are new to working together. I am happy to explain what I’m working on and discuss your experience in the moment, but if I start to feel this conversation is taking us away from presence instead of deepening it, I will gently steer the conversation back to the current moment or silence.
